One of my favorite movies in the past was the original rendition of The Time Machine (1960). The movie took some liberties from the H.G. Wells book and used "talking rings" as a means for the futuristic but illiterate Eloi to hear stories from long ago. The ability to hear someone's voice from long ago describe what was happening in their world always facinated me.
