Cynthia tells the story of her social life and how it was affected by the war in England in 1940.

The war changed social life for Shirley, although going to Church, dances and card games were still the high point of social life.  

There were lots of competitive sports in the orphanage.  When evacuated to the countryside during the war, Pat had a rather unsuccessful experience with a horse from the moors. Pat was also an accomplished badminton player, as well as golfing and swimming.

Margaret tells the story of how she met Ted and the romance - and hurdles- of getting engaged and married as servicemen and women during the war.
