Joyce talks about her first job in Adelaide after having moved down from Peterborough.

Joyce and her husband bought land in a new subdivision at Newton South Australia in 1959 and in 1964 moved into their new home, where they still live today.  Joyce describes her neighbours over the years and the sound neighbourly relationships that they share.

Joyce started her working career circa 1951 at John Martin's Retail store and after a few months moved to Myer in the Jewellery Dept.  After spending several years raising her children, she re-entered the workforce in 1975 as an off-set printer for TAFE, where she took on additional roles as Staff...

Joyce's parents both came from large families and they were always a close knit family, who celebrated together and kept in contact.  While the family is more spread these days, they still manage to keep in touch regularly especially at Xmas time.    

Joyce talks about special friendships she has enjoyed over her life.  

Joyce reflects on three amusing incidents over her life that still make her smile today - the black dog in the drain, John Martin's new escalators in 1951 and losing her sister down an open drain!    

Joyce talks fondly of Mrs Hayden a special teacher whose legacy to Joyce was her love of the English language and the written.  However, Joyce's experience with her Cooking Teacher, Mrs M, was anything but pleasant.  

Joyce enjoyed school and while she didn't have a favourite lesson she excelled in mental arithmetic and arithmetic.  However she also did well in english, history and georaphy as well as typing and bookkeping at High School.  She is grateful for her education and the benefits that she reaped in later...

Joyce remembers her 5 primary schools - Peterborough, Broken Hill, Walkerville, East Adelaide and Magill.  She walked to school when she was younger, but when she went to East Adelaide she rode her two wheeler bike while dinkying her sister on the back.  After that she caught the tram to Magill...

Joyce started school in Peterborough at the age of 5.  She did not attend pre-school and was very keen to learn.  She enjoyed her years at school and was educated at 5 different schools over the years.    

Like many Joyce was not a sporty person so here she talks about her special hobby - embroidery which helps her unwind and relax to this day.

Joyce recalls the fashions of her youth.... Her Mum was a gifted seamstress and in those days people made their own clothes. Joyce talks about her mother making dresses and underwear and this was not unusual in those days.

Joyce talks from the heart about her three special friends and the qualities she admires most in them.  

How things have changed. In this week's story Joyce recalls bathtime as a child in Peterborough. The weekly bath on Saturday and the rituals associated with it.
