No wonder the kitchen was your favorite room--that's where you and the family lived your life experiences. Your description of the bread-cutting machine is simply amazing! Thank you for describing your favorite room.
Your story makes me very thankful I never had to do things like keep coal fires going or go to bed without benefit of central heating. The milk glass decorated with ferns sounds like it must have been very beautiful.
